Direct thermal models – such as most of the TD series and the portable RuggedJet printers – work without a ribbon, making them cheaper to run, but the print fades over time with heat and light. This suits shipping labels and short-life identifiers. Durable product labels or industrial marking require thermal transfer printing, supported by the TJ industrial series and several desktop models.
