Zebra TC2X Series Mobile Computers

The Zebra TC2x Series, including the TC22 and TC27, is a compact and cost-effective Android mobile computer family designed for small and mid-size businesses that need more than a consumer smartphone can provide. The TC22 and TC27 are positioned for retail, hospitality, field mobility, field service, light warehouse, click-and-collect, delivery and mobile POS workflows. They are ideal for businesses that want to improve worker productivity, customer service quality and operational accuracy without moving into a higher-cost rugged device class. The TC22 is the Wi-Fi-focused model, designed for environments where workers operate within WLAN coverage, such as retail stores, stockrooms, hospitality venues, warehouses and back-office areas. The TC27 adds WWAN connectivity, including 5G, dual SIM / dual standby, VoLTE, Gigabit LTE-A, private LTE / 5G support and GPS / GNSS, making it better suited for delivery, direct store delivery, field service, mobile workforce and route-based applications. The TC2x Series is built around a Qualcomm 5430 hex-core processor running at 2.1 GHz. It offers two memory configurations: 6 GB RAM / 64 GB UFS Flash and 8 GB RAM / 128 GB UFS Flash. A user-accessible microSD card slot supports expansion up to 2 TB. This provides the performance needed for business applications, inventory tasks, mobile point-of-sale, delivery workflows and communication tools. The devices use a 6.0-inch Full High Definition+ display with 1080 × 2160 resolution, LED backlight and 450 nits brightness. The screen gives workers more space for business applications, item lookup, picking tasks, customer service tools, mPOS applications and delivery workflows. The contoured housing supports a secure and comfortable grip for all-day use, making the devices suitable for workers moving between customers, shelves, stockrooms, delivery vehicles and service locations. Durability is stronger than a consumer smartphone. The devices are sealed to IP68 and IP65 with battery according to applicable IEC specifications. They support multiple 1.3 m drops to tile over concrete across the operating temperature range, and multiple 1.5 m drops to concrete with the protective boot. Tumble testing includes 500 tumbles from 0.5 m, and 500 tumbles from 1.0 m with the optional protective boot. Operating temperature is -10°C to 50°C, with storage temperature from -40°C to 70°C. Power is supplied by user-removable rechargeable lithium-ion batteries with PowerPrecision real-time battery metrics. The standard battery is 3800 mAh / 14.63 Wh, while the extended battery is 5200 mAh / 20.02 Wh. A 3800 mAh BLE battery is also available for supported location workflows. Removable batteries allow workers to keep devices in service by swapping batteries instead of waiting for devices to recharge. Barcode scanning is one of the main reasons to choose the TC22 / TC27 over a consumer smartphone. Two enterprise-class scan engine options are available. The SE4710 1D / 2D scan engine is designed for standard barcode capture. The SE55 1D / 2D Advanced Range scan engine with IntelliFocus technology supports scanning items in hand as well as labels on higher shelves or farther locations. Both options are designed for fast first-time barcode capture, including barcodes in poor condition. The TC22 / TC27 also include a 16 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera. These can support documentation, customer service, proof-of-delivery, field service photos, video collaboration and other mobile workflows. Wireless connectivity is a strong feature for this price class. Both models support Wi-Fi with IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax, 2x2 MU-MIMO, dual band simultaneous operation, IPv4 and IPv6. The supplied material describes Wi-Fi 6 / Wi-Fi 6E support, but the footnote states that a Mobility DNA Enterprise License is required for Wi-Fi 6E. The TC27 includes one nano SIM and one eSIM, except in China. GPS support on the TC27 includes GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Beidou, QZSS, dual-band GNSS and assisted GPS. Actual band support varies by country and carrier. CBRS private LTE support is listed as available in the US only, so it should be presented as a region-specific option rather than a global feature. Bluetooth support includes Bluetooth 5.2 Class 2 and secondary BLE for beaconing within the BLE battery. NFC support includes ISO 14443 Type A and B, Mifare, FeliCa, ISO 15693 cards, NFC Forum tags 2, 3, 4 and 5, host card emulation, contactless payment support, value-added services, wallet support, Apple ECP 1.0 / 2.0, Apple VAS and Google Smart Tap. This NFC functionality allows the TC22 / TC27 to support contactless transactions, loyalty cards, tickets, gift cards, boarding passes and tap-to-pay style workflows, depending on POS/payment integration and the retailer’s software environment. Audio features support retail and field communication. The devices include two microphones with noise cancellation, dual speakers, Bluetooth wireless headset support, Zebra USB-C PTT headset support, high-quality speakerphone support and HD Voice including super-wideband, wideband and fullband audio. This makes the TC22 / TC27 suitable for push-to-talk, voice calls, customer support and mobile workforce communication, depending on software and licensing. The devices include dual dedicated scan buttons, a programmable button for push-to-talk or other functions, volume buttons and power button. This gives workers faster access to key functions than a typical consumer smartphone. Zebra Mobility DNA Professional is included at no cost, adding tools for security, deployment, device management and data capture. These tools help stage devices, control available applications and features, capture barcode data without programming, manage Google Mobile Services availability, collect diagnostics and support Android security updates. A Mobility DNA Enterprise license adds more advanced capabilities. These can include simultaneous multi-barcode capture, document capture, custom soft keyboards, enhanced Wi-Fi tools, Bluetooth accessory management, Workstation Connect software and access to additional licensable Zebra tools. Workstation Connect requires separate hardware even when the software is included with the Mobility DNA Enterprise license. The TC22 / TC27 can be extended into additional workflows. Workstation Connect can turn the device into a workstation or hybrid POS station when used with compatible cradle hardware, monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner or payment terminal. RFID workflows can be added with RFD40 UHF RFID sleds or RFD90 Ultra-Rugged UHF RFID sleds. RFID is therefore sled-based and should not be described as integrated into the TC22 / TC27. Device Tracker can help locate missing devices equipped with a BLE battery, even if the battery is depleted, but it requires a separate Device Tracker license. Zebra DNA Cloud also requires a separate license and is not included with the Mobility DNA Enterprise license. Typical retail applications include price checks, item lookup, mPOS, inventory management, picking and collecting, shipping and receiving, and task management. Hospitality applications include event ticketing and POS sales. Field mobility use cases include courier / delivery, direct store delivery, payment on delivery and last-mile delivery. Field service applications include field services, site security and facilities management. Warehouse and wearable-style workflows include sortation, loading and unloading, and click-and-collect. Overall, the Zebra TC22 / TC27 Series is a strong choice for businesses that want a compact, affordable and modern enterprise mobile computer with professional scanning, replaceable batteries, ruggedness and Zebra software support.
