Zebra LI3600 Series Ultra-Rugged Barcode Scanners
Brand - Zebra

The Zebra LI3600 Series is an ultra-rugged industrial 1D linear imager family designed for warehouse, logistics and manufacturing environments where standard barcode scanners are not durable or powerful enough. It is built for workers who need to capture 1D barcodes quickly and reliably in demanding conditions: on pallets, cartons, racks, pick lists, production lines, receiving docks, shipping areas, cold storage zones and outdoor operational spaces. The LI3600 Series includes two main scanning profiles. The LI3600-SR is designed for standard-range 1D barcode capture, while the LI3600-ER is designed for extended-range 1D barcode capture. Both are available in corded and cordless versions: LI3608 for corded operation and LI3678 for cordless operation. This makes the family suitable for fixed workstations, forklift workflows, mobile warehouse tasks and scan-intensive industrial operations. The key point in positioning the LI3600 Series is that it is a 1D industrial scanner family. It is not a 2D imager like the DS3600 Series. It is the right choice when the customer works mainly with 1D barcodes and needs maximum durability, high scanning speed, strong range and industrial uptime. The LI3600-SR is the better fit for standard-range 1D barcode workflows. It is designed to read 1D barcodes printed on labels or displayed on screens, even when the codes are under heavy shrinkwrap, damaged, dirty or poorly printed. Typical use cases include picking, putaway, packing, shipping, receiving, inventory checks, production tracking and general warehouse or manufacturing barcode capture. The LI3600-ER is designed for extended-range 1D scanning. It can capture 1D barcodes from close range to very long distances, with the source describing a range from 2 inches / 5.1 cm up to 56 ft / 17.1 m depending on barcode type, size, print quality and lighting. This makes it especially valuable in warehouses where workers need to scan both nearby labels and high rack location labels with a single scanner. Both LI3600-SR and LI3600-ER are designed for difficult barcode conditions. They can capture printed 1D barcodes and screen-displayed 1D barcodes, and are built to read codes that are damaged, dirty, poorly printed or covered by shrinkwrap. This is important in real warehouse and manufacturing environments where labels are often exposed to abrasion, dust, moisture, packaging film and rough handling. The ultra-rugged construction is one of the strongest advantages of the LI3600 Series. The scanners are specified to withstand multiple 10 ft / 3 m drops to concrete at room temperature and 7,500 tumbles in a 1 m tumbler. The scanners carry dual IP65 / IP68 sealing, meaning they are protected against dust, jetting water and immersion according to the applicable specifications. This makes them suitable for harsh indoor, outdoor, dusty, wet and freezer-related workflows. The operating temperature range supports demanding environments. Corded versions are specified for -30°C to +50°C operation, while cordless versions are specified for -20°C to +50°C operation. The sources also note use in freezer environments, with a heated scanner holder accessory recommended to reduce condensation when moving in and out of freezers. The cradle and charging system are also industrialised. The cradle is IP65 sealed, and the industrial charging contacts are designed for 250,000 insertions. Zebra Connect+ Contact technology supports reliable, corrosion-free charging over the life of the scanner. This is important in multi-shift industrial environments where scanners are repeatedly placed into and removed from cradles. Cordless LI3678 models use a PowerPrecision+ 3100 mAh lithium-ion battery. The LI3600-SR source lists more than 140,000 scans per full charge, while the LI3600-ER source lists more than 100,000 scans per full charge. Battery health data, charge cycle information and State of Health reporting help operations teams identify ageing batteries before they affect productivity. The cordless models also include practical workflow features. A battery charge gauge and Bluetooth status LED allow workers to check battery and connection status at a glance. AutoConfig allows scanner settings to be stored in the cradle base, so pairing the scanner with a different base can automatically configure it for a new host application. Virtual Tether alerts users if a scanner is taken beyond Bluetooth range or left out of the cradle for too long. Wi-Fi Friendly Mode helps reduce Bluetooth interference with the site’s Wi-Fi network. The LI3600 Series supports multiple feedback modes for noisy or demanding environments. Workers can use vibration, wraparound LEDs, beep tone and Zebra’s Direct Decode Indicator, which projects illumination on the captured barcode. This helps confirm successful scans even when workers are wearing gloves, working around forklifts or operating in loud industrial spaces. The LI3600-SR offers a sharp, bright aiming pattern for standard-range work, useful for pick lists, labels and general warehouse barcode capture. The LI3600-ER adds an aiming pattern designed to make scanning intuitive at both short and long distances, including upper warehouse racks. This distinction is important: SR is the standard-range workhorse, while ER is the better choice when workers frequently scan far-away rack or location labels. The LI3600 Series supports common 1D symbologies, including Code 39, Code 128, Code 93, Codabar / NW7, Code 11, MSI Plessey, UPC / EAN, Interleaved 2 of 5, Korean 3 of 5, GS1 DataBar and Base 32. Because the LI3600 family is focused on 1D barcode capture, customers with QR, DataMatrix, PDF417 or DPM requirements should be directed to the DS3600 Series instead. Connectivity is suitable for industrial deployment. Supported host interfaces include USB, RS232 and Keyboard Wedge. The series also supports industrial Ethernet connectivity through EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP and standard TCP/IP via Zebra Network Connect, allowing scanners to connect directly into industrial Ethernet environments without additional conversion equipment. Management is supported through Zebra DataCapture DNA tools. 123Scan helps program scanner parameters, update firmware, provide scanned barcode data and print reports. Scanner Management Service can remotely manage scanners and query asset information. Zebra Scanner SDK supports application development. ScanSpeed Analytics can identify poor-performing barcodes that slow down operations, while Remote Diagnostics can provide scanner health, statistics, configuration and barcode data for troubleshooting and fleet-wide trend analysis. The LI3600 Series is well suited to warehouses, distribution centres, manufacturing plants, cold storage, receiving, shipping, forklift operations, rack scanning, inventory control, pick-and-pack workflows, production lines and other industrial 1D barcode applications. It is not primarily a retail POS scanner; it is an industrial 1D scanning platform for users who need ruggedness, range, uptime and fleet manageability. Overall, the Zebra LI3600 Series is a premium ultra-rugged 1D scanner family for demanding industrial environments. Its strongest value lies in standard-range and extended-range 1D model options, corded and cordless versions, extreme durability, dual IP65 / IP68 sealing, long battery life, industrial cradle design, screen and label-based 1D barcode capture, Zebra cordless workflow features, Network Connect support and DataCapture DNA manageability.
