Zebra ZT200 Series Industrial Printers

The Zebra ZT200 Series is Zebra’s most affordable industrial printer family, designed for businesses that need durable industrial printing at a controlled budget. Built from customer feedback and Zebra’s experience with legacy industrial printers, the ZT200 Series offers a practical balance of reliability, compact design, ease of use and serviceability for everyday industrial and commercial labelling workflows. The ZT200 Series is suitable for manufacturing, transportation and logistics, healthcare, retail, government, warehousing and general operational labelling. Typical applications include work-in-process labels, product identification, serial number labels, package labelling, receiving and put-away labels, order picking, shipping and receiving, cross-docking, compliance labelling, specimen labelling, asset tracking, shelf labelling, returns and item tags. The series includes two main models: the ZT220 and the ZT230. The ZT220 is Zebra’s most affordable industrial printer, with a durable high-impact polymer media cover and a simple three-button user interface. It is best suited for barcode labelling applications where format changes and printer setting adjustments are infrequent. The ZT230 is the more robust model, with a rugged all-metal case, graphical LCD user interface and full-function keypad. It is better suited for environments where users need more frequent format changes, printer setup changes or clearer front-panel control. Both models are designed as compact industrial printers. The ZT200 Series has a smaller footprint than the legacy S4M printer and uses a bi-fold media door that requires only 102 mm of opening space. This makes the printers easier to place in confined work areas, production cells, packing stations or warehouse locations where space is limited. The printers are available in direct thermal and thermal transfer configurations. Direct thermal models are suitable for shorter-life labels and applications where ribbon is not required. Thermal transfer models support ribbon-based printing for more durable labels, depending on the selected media and ribbon. Both models use a metal frame, side-loading supplies path and thin-film printhead with E3 Element Energy Equalizer for consistent print quality. Print performance is designed for light industrial and commercial environments. The ZT200 Series supports 203 dpi resolution as standard, with 300 dpi available as an option. Maximum print width is 104 mm, and maximum print speed is 152 mm per second, or 6 inches per second. Print length is 3988 mm at 203 dpi and 1854 mm at 300 dpi. This makes the series suitable for standard 4-inch operational labels where reliable output is more important than the highest industrial throughput. The media system supports common industrial label formats. Media width ranges from 19.4 mm to 114 mm. Maximum media roll size is 203 mm outside diameter on a 76 mm core, or 152 mm outside diameter on a 25 mm core. Supported media thickness ranges from 0.076 mm to 0.25 mm. Media types include continuous, die-cut, notch and black mark media. Thermal transfer models support 450 m ribbon length on both ZT220 and ZT230. Ribbon width ranges from 40 mm to 110 mm, with a 25.4 mm core. This long ribbon capacity is a strong advantage over many desktop printers and helps reduce ribbon change frequency in higher-volume workflows. The ZT200 Series is designed for straightforward setup and operation. Side-loading media and ribbon paths reduce complicated threading, while colour-coded cues guide users during loading. Illuminated multi-position transmissive and reflective sensors are visible through the media, helping operators adjust sensor position more easily. These usability features reduce training requirements and help keep the printer running with fewer operator errors. Maintenance is also simplified. Tool-less platen and printhead removal support easier cleaning and replacement. Standard component maintenance requires minimal tools, and interchangeable connectivity options support faster changes and upgrades. Standard communication interfaces include USB 2.0 and RS-232 serial. Optional communication options include ZebraNet 10/100 Ethernet print server, ZebraNet a/b/g/n wireless print server and Centronics parallel port. Supported linear barcodes include Code 39, Code 128, UPC, EAN, ISBT-128, Interleaved 2-of-5, MSI, Codabar and others. Font and graphics support includes bitmapped fonts, a smooth scalable font, user-defined fonts and graphics, custom logos and Unicode-compliant scalable fonts for EMEA character sets. The ZT220 measures 432 mm × 239 mm × 280 mm and weighs 7.8 kg. The ZT230 measures 432 mm × 242 mm × 277 mm and weighs 9.1 kg. Both models are compact enough for constrained environments while offering a more industrial structure than desktop printers. Operating temperature depends on print method. Thermal transfer operation is specified from 5°C to 40°C, while direct thermal operation is specified from 0°C to 40°C. Storage and transportation temperature is -40°C to 60°C. Operating humidity is 20% to 85% non-condensing, and storage humidity is 5% to 85% non-condensing. The printers use a universal auto-ranging, PFC-compliant 100–240 VAC power supply and are ENERGY STAR certified. Zebra Certified Supplies are recommended to help ensure consistent print quality, reduce downtime and maintain readable, scannable output. Zebra OneCare service plans are also available to support uptime and predictable maintenance costs, depending on the selected plan and region.
