The Zebra ZD621R is a premium 4-inch desktop RAIN RFID printer / encoder designed for businesses that need compact size, high print quality, RFID encoding and enterprise-grade security in one desktop device. It is built for applications where labels, tags or wristbands must not only be printed, but also encoded with UHF RFID data. The ZD621R is the 4-inch model in Zebra’s desktop RFID printer range. It builds on the legacy of the ZD500R and uses a more powerful architecture designed to support advanced printer capabilities, RFID workflows, security features, software tools and future technology requirements. The printer uses Zebra’s integrated RE40 RFID reader / encoder module. It supports UHF EPC Gen 2 V2.1, ISO / IEC 18000-63 and RAIN RFID protocols. This allows the ZD621R to print and encode compatible RFID labels and tags for item-level identification, asset tracking, healthcare, retail, hospitality and food-related tracking workflows. A key benefit of the ZD621R is Adaptive Encoding Technology. This simplifies RFID setup and calibration by reducing the need for complex RFID inlay placement rules. In practice, this gives users more media flexibility and makes RFID label and tag production easier to deploy and maintain. The ZD621R can print and encode RFID tags with a minimum pitch of 0.6 in / 16 mm. RFID job monitoring tools help track RFID performance, while RFID logs record RFID data with timestamps for traceability. RFID ZPL commands support compatibility with existing Zebra printer workflows, and the printer also supports industry-standard, multi-vendor chip-based serialization. The ZD621R supports both thermal transfer and direct thermal printing. This makes it suitable for different label and tag durability requirements. Thermal transfer is useful where longer-lasting printed information is required, while direct thermal can be appropriate for shorter lifecycle labels where ribbon-free printing is preferred. Maximum print speed is 8 in / 203 mm per second at 203 dpi and 6 in / 152 mm per second at 300 dpi. The maximum print width is 4.09 in / 104 mm at 203 dpi and 4.27 in / 108 mm at 300 dpi. The ZD621R includes a media dancer, similar to Zebra industrial printers, to help maintain print quality across labels and tags regardless of print speed. This is especially important for RFID labels and tags, where consistent print and encode performance is critical. The user interface is designed for easy operation. The ZD621R includes a 4.3-inch full-color LCD touch display with an intuitive menu system, setup wizards, troubleshooting animations, media-loading guidance and calibration guidance. The display can change color to show printer status at a glance, while color-coded touch points help users perform media handling tasks more quickly. The printer supports ZPL and EPL printer languages, allowing compatibility with many existing Zebra label formats and applications. It can also emulate printer languages associated with other printer brands through the Zebra DNA Printer Emulations app, helping simplify printer replacement projects. Connectivity is broad for a desktop RFID printer. Standard interfaces include Ethernet, USB 2.0 and USB host. Serial communication is standard on the ZD621R. Optional wireless connectivity includes dual-radio Wi-Fi and Bluetooth options, including 802.11ac with Bluetooth 4.1 or 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 with Bluetooth 5.3. The printer setup mobile app can be used through Bluetooth Low Energy. The ZD621R runs Zebra’s Link-OS operating system and is supported by Zebra DNA for Printers. Zebra DNA tools help with printer setup, performance optimization, remote management, security and lifecycle support. Printer Profile Manager Enterprise enables centralized remote management of Zebra DNA printers, while PrintSecure helps protect against unauthorized access and cyber risks. The printer is also suitable for managed print service environments. Zebra DNA can help service providers remotely manage printers, track supplies, automate maintenance-related workflows and support printer security across distributed locations. The physical design is compact but robust. The ZD621R measures 267 mm L x 202 mm W x 192 mm H / 10.5 in L x 8.0 in W x 7.5 in H and weighs 2.5 kg / 5.5 lb. It has dual-wall frame construction, OpenACCESS for easy media loading, a real-time clock and ENERGY STAR certification. Media support is flexible. The ZD621R supports media widths from 15 mm to 118 mm and roll-fed or fan-fold media, die-cut or continuous labels, media with or without black mark, tag stock, continuous receipt paper and wristbands. Maximum media roll outer diameter is 127 mm. Ribbon options include 300 m and 74 m lengths, with ribbon widths from 33 mm to 109.2 mm. Optional accessories include dispenser / peeler, cutter, wireless communication kits, battery and ZKDU keyboard display unit. The optional battery can support a full shift of printing at maximum print speed and helps turn the ZD621R into a more portable desktop printer for cart-based workflows.
