Zebra Sensing Retail Appliance
Brand - Zebra

The Zebra Sensing Retail Appliance, based on Zebra SmartLens for Retail, is a retail sensing infrastructure designed to help stores automatically detect, analyze and act on the movement and location of RFID-tagged merchandise and assets. It is built for retailers that need real-time inventory visibility, better omni-channel execution, shrink reduction and more efficient store operations. This is not a handheld RFID reader, not a standard fixed reader and not a single POS device. It is a family of overhead and area-specific RFID sensors designed for different zones inside a retail store. The system is intended to sense and record how merchandise moves through the store, from receiving and backroom areas to the sales floor, entry / exit points and point of sale. The main value of Zebra SmartLens Retail Sensors is real-time awareness. By automatically capturing RFID events throughout the store, retailers can understand where products are located, whether inventory has moved into or out of a zone, and whether merchandise has passed through the correct operational process. This supports more accurate inventory, faster replenishment, better click-and-collect operations and stronger loss prevention. The family includes several sensor types, each optimized for a specific retail area. The ST5500 Transition Point SmartLens Sensor tracks inventory as it moves through receiving and entry / exit points. Its key role is to identify the direction of travel, helping the retailer understand whether RFID-tagged items are entering or leaving an area. It can be installed on a wall or suspended from the ceiling, making it suitable for different retail layouts. This sensor is especially useful where movement direction matters, such as receiving doors, store exits or internal transition points. The SR5502 Backroom SmartLens Sensor tracks inventory in the backroom from the moment it arrives to the moment it leaves. It is designed to handle high tag volumes with increased accuracy and read rates. Power over Ethernet simplifies deployment by eliminating the need for separate power outlets, which is useful in complex backroom environments. It supports backroom inventory visibility and helps create a more accurate starting point for the store’s inventory tracking cycle. The SN5604 SNAP SmartLens Sensor tracks inventory on the sales floor. It is an overhead sensor with an integrated high-performance RFID reader, designed to provide real-time visibility into what is happening on the sales floor. The source notes that these sensors are designed to support different store ceiling types and heights, and that sensor housings can be customized to complement the store’s architecture and aesthetics. This makes the SN5604 the main sales-floor visibility component of the SmartLens sensor family. The SP5504 POS SmartLens Sensor tracks inventory at the point of sale. It logs items passing through POS lanes and uses highly localized antenna technology so that a POS sensor can be installed at every checkout without risking interference. It works together with Transition Point SmartLens Sensors to identify items exiting the store that have not passed through a POS, helping alert retailers to potential theft before it happens. The system is designed to support key retail applications such as real-time inventory, product location, dynamic replenishment, proof of delivery / delivery validation, vendor compliance, planogram compliance, markdown management, Click and Collect / BOPIS / Reserve, ship-from-store, picking optimization, POS bypass detection, administrative shrink reduction, return fraud identification and asset tracking. The SN5604 sales-floor sensor measures 541 mm in diameter x 197 mm and weighs 4.8 kg. It operates from 0°C to 50°C, with storage from -40°C to 70°C. It supports EPCglobal UHF Class 1 Gen2 and ISO 18000-6C, with global reader frequencies of 902–928 MHz for North America and 865–868 MHz for Europe. Radiated power is listed up to 4 W EIRP. It supports Ethernet communication and power through an 802.3af / at compliant port. The ST5500 measures 1194 mm x 559 mm x 229 mm and weighs 10.4 kg. It operates from -20°C to 55°C, with storage from -40°C to 70°C. Input power is listed at 18 W maximum over 37–55 VDC PoE. It is intended for transition-point tracking where entry / exit direction is important. The SR5502 measures 432 mm x 260 mm x 178 mm and weighs 2.5 kg. It operates from -20°C to 55°C, with storage from -40°C to 70°C. Input power is listed at 18 W maximum over 37–55 VDC PoE. It is positioned for backroom inventory tracking from arrival to departure. The SP5504 measures 305 mm x 305 mm x 102 mm and weighs 1.8 kg. It operates from -20°C to 55°C, with storage from -40°C to 70°C. Input power is listed at 13 W maximum over 37–55 VDC PoE. It is positioned for POS lanes, will-call areas and localized checkout-related inventory sensing. Overall, Zebra Sensing Retail Appliance / SmartLens Retail Sensors should be positioned as a store-wide RFID sensing infrastructure for retailers that want to move beyond periodic inventory counts and gain continuous visibility into product movement. Its strongest value lies in zone-specific RFID sensing, real-time inventory visibility, dynamic replenishment, omni-channel execution, POS bypass detection, shrink reduction and the ability to connect inventory movement data with store operations.
