Zebra CS60 Series Companion Scanner

The Zebra CS60 Series is an ultra-versatile companion scanner designed for businesses that need one compact scanner platform for multiple workflows. Its key advantage is its convertible design: the same scanner can be used as a cordless pocketable scanner, a corded handheld scanner or a hands-free presentation scanner, depending on the accessories and configuration used. The CS60 Series is especially useful in retail, hospitality, transportation and logistics, and light manufacturing environments where workers move between different tasks during the day. Typical applications include mobile point of sale, inventory management, cycle counting, merchandising, repairs, concession stands, ticket processing, route accounting, shipping labels and asset tracking. The main strength of the CS60 Series is workflow flexibility. A business may need a cordless scanner for aisle inventory, a corded scanner at checkout, and a hands-free scanner for a kiosk or counter. With the CS60 Series, these use cases can be covered with the same scanner platform. By swapping the battery and corded USB converter, the scanner can be changed between cordless and corded operation. With the optional presentation stand, it can automatically switch between handheld and hands-free scanning. This convertible design protects the investment over time. If workflows change, the scanner can be redeployed instead of replaced. A cordless CS60 used for inventory can later be converted for a checkout counter, customer service desk, receiving area or other scanning task. Despite its compact size, the CS60 Series uses Zebra’s proven scanning technology. A high-resolution megapixel sensor and Zebra PRZM Intelligent Imaging help capture challenging barcodes, including poorly printed, damaged, dirty, crinkled, low-contrast, glossy and electronic barcodes on dim mobile phone displays. The image sensor is 1280 × 960 pixels, with a nominal field of view of 45° horizontal and 34° vertical. The CS60 Series supports a broad range of 1D, 2D and OCR symbologies. Supported 1D codes include Code 39, Code 93, Code 128, Codabar / NW7, Code 11, GS1 DataBar, Interleaved 2 of 5, Korean 3 of 5, MSI Plessey, UPC / EAN and Base 32. Supported 2D codes include Aztec, Composite Codes, DataMatrix, Dotted DataMatrix, DotCode, Han Xin, MaxiCode, PDF417, MicroPDF417, Postal Codes, QR Code, Micro QR, TLC-39 and SecurPharm. OCR support includes OCR-A, OCR-B, MICR and US Currency. The scanner is compact and lightweight. The scanner body measures 2.3 cm × 4.6 cm × 10.9 cm. The corded version weighs 56 g, while the cordless version weighs 83 g. This makes the CS60 small enough to hold naturally, carry in a pocket or wear with a lanyard and silicone protector during a full shift. The cordless version is designed for mobile work. It supports Bluetooth 5.0 with BLE, Class 1 range up to 100 m and Class 2 range up to 10 m, using Serial Port and HID profiles. NFC tap-to-pair allows workers to pair the scanner quickly with compatible NFC-enabled devices, reducing setup time and making it easier for new or temporary workers to begin scanning. The CS60 Series also supports Wi-Fi Friendly Mode, helping cordless scanners operate on channels that do not interfere with the business Wi-Fi network. Zebra’s Virtual Tether helps prevent scanner loss by alerting users when the scanner is taken out of range or left out of the cradle too long. If a scanner is misplaced, the cradle’s paging button can help locate it. Cordless power is designed for full-shift use. The CS60 uses a 745 mAh lithium polymer battery and provides up to 13,000 scans or 18 hours of operation per full charge under the stated simulated checkout profile. A dedicated battery gauge makes it easy to check battery status before or during a shift. The battery can be replaced without special tools. The CS60 Series supports Qi inductive charging when the battery is inserted in the scanner. Contactless charging eliminates the need for battery contact cleaning and maintenance on the scanner itself. Zebra’s inductive charging solution provides the fastest charging times, while the scanner can also be charged using compatible off-the-shelf Qi wireless charging pads. Spare batteries and battery chargers use charging contacts and cannot be charged with a wireless pad. The scanner is designed to be easy to clean. Its monocoque design, inductive sensing touch buttons and contactless charging help create a crevice-free surface that is easier to wipe down and keep clean between shifts. The CS60 Series also includes a second programmable button. This can be used to toggle between host applications or workflow profiles, allowing workers to send data to the correct application in the correct format and order. This is useful when the same scanner is used for point of sale, inventory, receiving or customer service tasks. Zebra’s AutoConfig cradle further simplifies redeployment. Scanner settings are stored in the cradle base, so pairing a CS60 with a different base can automatically configure it for a new host application and use case. This makes it easier to move scanners between self-checkout, manned lanes, customer service, inventory and receiving workflows. Productivity tools are also available through Zebra’s DataCapture DNA. Label Parse+ can capture and parse GS1 label barcode data, such as expiration dates, lot numbers and manufacturing location. Multi-Code Data Formatting can scan multiple barcodes with one trigger pull and transmit only the required codes in the order expected by the application. Preferred Symbol allows the scanner to capture and output only the desired barcode when multiple barcodes are present. The CS60 Series provides multiple feedback options. These include good decode LEDs, a beeper with adjustable tone and volume, haptic feedback on decode, haptic and audible feedback on the capacitive trigger, a dedicated battery gauge, a dedicated Bluetooth LED and Zebra’s Direct Decode Indicator, which projects illumination on the barcode. Durability is strong for such a compact scanner. The CS60 scanner is rated IP65, protecting it against dust and water exposure. It is designed to withstand multiple 1.8 m drops to concrete and 250 tumbles in a 0.5 m tumbler. It operates from 0°C to 50°C and can be stored from -40°C to 70°C. ESD protection is listed at ±15 kV air discharge, ±8 kV direct and ±8 kV indirect discharge for the scanner and cradle. The CS60 Series supports USB as the host interface and more than 90 international keyboards. Specific configurations are FIPS 140-3 compliant and TAA compliant. MFi certification is also available on specific configurations. Accessories include standard cradle, spare battery, four-slot scanner ShareCradle, four-slot battery ShareCradle, lanyard, Qi pad, gooseneck Intellistand, cup and corded USB converter. These accessories allow the CS60 Series to support mobile, counter, presentation and backroom workflows. The CS6080 scanner and CR6080 cradle are covered by a three-year warranty according to the supplied material, while the CR6080 Qi Pad is covered for one month. Recommended services include Zebra OneCare Essential and Zebra OneCare Select. Overall, the Zebra CS60 Series is a compact and highly flexible companion scanner for organisations that need one scanner platform for changing workflows. Its strongest value lies in its convertible corded / cordless design, handheld / hands-free flexibility, pocketable form factor, PRZM Intelligent Imaging, Qi inductive charging, NFC tap-to-pair, Bluetooth 5.0, full-shift cordless operation, IP65 sealing, Virtual Tether, AutoConfig cradle and DataCapture DNA tools.
