The Datalogic Matrix 220 is a compact fixed-mount industrial 2D imager designed for high-performance barcode reading in electronics, automotive, packaging, document handling and factory automation applications. It is positioned above the Matrix 120 when higher performance, electronic focus, more advanced illumination and stronger DPM reading capability are required. The Matrix 220 is not a handheld scanner and not a mobile computer. It is a stationary industrial imager for machine integration, production lines, traceability stations, print & apply systems, packaging lines, electronic component identification and automotive part tracking. Unlike 1D laser scanners such as the DS series, the Matrix 220 is a true image-based reader. It supports standard 1D codes and 2D codes including Data Matrix, QR Code, Micro QR, MaxiCode, Aztec and Dot Code. It is also suitable for Direct Part Marking applications when the correct DPM model and illumination configuration are selected. Typical electronics applications include PCB board track and trace, electronic component identification, chip identification, electronic product tracking and DPM barcode reading on plastic, glass and metal. In automotive environments, the Matrix 220 supports DPM code validation after marking, work-in-progress control and parts or assembly traceability. In packaging, the Matrix 220 can be used for primary packaging barcode reading, package traceability and food and beverage identification. In document handling, it is suitable for high-speed applications where reliable 1D / 2D code reading is required in a compact fixed position. The Matrix 220 uses a 1.2 megapixel CMOS global shutter sensor with 1280 x 960 image resolution. The frame rate is 45 frames per second. This gives the reader a strong foundation for industrial 2D reading, traceability and high-speed applications. Two processing platforms are available. Standard models use a 2-core CPU at 600 MHz. Premium models use a 4-core CPU at 1200 MHz. The Premium platform is designed to double processing power and reduce decoding time compared to the standard version, enabling higher throughput and faster handling in multi-recipe applications. The Matrix 220 Premium can capture and process more images within the same time period than the standard version. This is important in high-speed production, fast document handling, multi-code reading and applications where several recipes or product variants must be handled efficiently. Electronic focus control is one of the key advantages of the Matrix 220. It allows remote job changes during assembly line reconfiguration and provides greater reading flexibility than fixed manual focus systems. This is especially useful in production lines where product formats, code positions or reading distances change. Optical models include 7 mm and 12 mm lens options. The 7 mm lens provides a 38.3-degree viewing angle, while the 12 mm lens provides a 24.1-degree viewing angle. Reading range depends on model and illumination. STD-W, STD-W HP and STD-UV HP models support reading from 40 to 400 mm with the 7 mm lens and from 40 to 600 mm with the 12 mm lens. DPM-R and DPM-B models support reading from 40 to 300 mm. DPM-R HP models support 40 to 400 mm with the 7 mm lens and 40 to 600 mm with the 12 mm lens. Exact reading performance depends on code size, marking quality, surface material, lighting and installation geometry. The Matrix 220 offers several illumination options to solve different industrial applications. Available versions include white light, white high-power light, ultraviolet high-power light, red light with polarizer and diffuser, red high-power light with polarizer, and blue light with polarizer and diffuser. The All-In-One DPM illuminator is one of the strongest features of the Direct Part Marking models. By combining polarizing and diffused illumination options in one model, the Matrix 220 can handle a wide range of difficult surfaces, including metal, plastic, glass and reflective materials. The ultraviolet high-power illumination system is suitable for industrial applications using UV-sensitive fluorescent ink. High Power Illuminator models are designed for challenging high-speed applications where more illumination power is required. High Dynamic Range is available for all models. HDR helps improve image quality and contrast, which can be useful when reading codes on difficult backgrounds or surfaces with variable reflectivity. Digimarc Barcode reading technology is also supported for added-value decoding applications. PoE models use Ethernet 10 / 100 Mbit/s with Power over Ethernet Mode A and Mode B, supporting TCP/IP, UDP, FTP and fieldbus protocols including PROFINET IO, EtherNet/IP and Modbus TCP. PoE models also include auxiliary RS-232 and OPC UA. PoE models use 48 VDC power, while other models use 10–30 VDC. Power consumption is 4.2 W for non-PoE models and 4.8 W for PoE models. Reader networking is supported through Datalogic ID-NET. Connectivity modes include Pass Through, Master / Slave and Ethernet point-to-point. Digital I/O depends on model type. Non-PoE models include two optocoupled and polarity-insensitive inputs, while PoE models include one optocoupled and polarity-insensitive input. Non-PoE models include three configurable outputs, while outputs are not available on PoE models. When using CBX, the first two outputs are optocoupled. The user interface includes X-PRESS Human Machine Interface, beeper, push button, seven LEDs and Green Spot / Red Spot LEDs. The LEDs indicate status, communication, trigger, good read, ready, power on and network status. A web monitoring interface is also available. Device programming is handled through DL.CODE Windows-based software via Ethernet or serial interface. DL.CODE includes a JavaScript output formatter. Host Mode programming and X-PRESS are also supported.
