The Datalogic Magellan 35xxHSi Series is an in-counter high-performance barcode scanner family designed for point-of-sale environments. The series includes the Magellan 3510HSi and Magellan 3550HSi models, both intended for retail checkout lanes where fast, reliable and ergonomic barcode reading is required directly from the counter surface. The Magellan 35xxHSi Series is not a handheld scanner and not an on-counter presentation scanner. It is an in-counter POS scanner family for retailers that want a compact, integrated scanning solution built into the checkout counter. This makes it especially suitable for grocery, convenience retail, specialty retail and other point-of-sale environments where space efficiency and cashier productivity are important. The series uses advanced digital imaging technology to provide reliable reading of printed and mobile barcodes. It can read standard 1D codes, 2D codes and optional Digimarc digital watermark codes. The scanners are designed to read barcodes displayed on cell phones as well as printed product labels, coupons and loyalty cards. With a large field of view and imaging-based scanning, the Magellan 35xxHSi Series supports both high-speed sweep scanning and presentation scanning. This helps cashiers scan items quickly while maintaining ergonomic ease, even when barcodes are truncated, out-of-spec or poorly printed. The series supports a wide decoding range. It autodiscriminates standard 1D / linear codes including GS1 DataBar linear codes. It also supports 2D codes such as Aztec Code, Data Matrix ECC200 and QR Code, as well as stacked codes including GS1 DataBar Composites, GS1 DataBar Expanded Stacked, GS1 DataBar Stacked, GS1 DataBar Stacked Omnidirectional, MicroPDF417 and PDF417. Optional Digimarc Barcode / GS1 DW Code support is available. The Magellan 3510HSi is positioned as the easier integration and power-efficient model. It uses a newer electronics platform that allows the scanner to operate from a single 5V USB connection, supporting simple connection to POS systems. It has a 1 MP / 1280 x 800 pixel image sensor and a maximum read rate of 30 million pixels per second. The Magellan 3550HSi is positioned for high-volume point-of-sale environments. It is designed to duplicate the speed and large field of view associated with laser scanners while expanding the capabilities of imaging. It uses a 1280 x 1024 image sensor and provides a maximum read rate of 39 million pixels per second, making it the stronger option for higher-throughput retail checkout lanes. Both models use multiple diffused LEDs with orientation and wavelength optimized for eye comfort. This subtle adaptive illumination supports user comfort during repeated scanning while maintaining strong barcode reading performance. The optional Magellan Customer Service Scanner, or CSS, extends the customer interaction workflow. It allows customers to scan barcodes from mobile phone screens, paper coupons or loyalty cards while the cashier continues scanning regular items. This parallel scanning workflow can reduce total transaction time and support mobile commerce programs. Enterprise integration is an important strength of the Magellan 35xxHSi Series. Remote management is supported for OPOS, JavaPOS, Toshiba Remote Management with IBM Systems Director and Wavelink Avalanche. Additional value-added features include diagnostic reporting, host download and Magellan ULE scripting. The scanners include image capture in BMP and JPEG formats, a Micro SD card slot, multiple interfaces in every unit and diagnostics reporting. They are compatible with Checkpoint Systems and Tyco Sensormatic EAS solutions. For EAS, Checkpoint Systems integrated EAS hardware works with Counterpoint IX and Evolve D11 models, while Sensormatic supports Good Read Acknowledgement. The 3510HSi supports OEM / IBM USB, RS-232, USB Keyboard, USB Com and USB TEC interfaces. Its powered Type A USB auxiliary port for USB Com requires a power supply or 12V host power. The 3550HSi supports OEM / IBM USB, RS-232, USB Keyboard and USB Com, with a powered Type A USB auxiliary port. Both models share the same physical dimensions. Below-counter depth is 8.7 cm / 3.4 in, length is 15.2 cm / 6.0 in and width is 15.2 cm / 6.0 in. Weight is 0.98 kg / 2.16 lb. Standard counter mount options are available for integration into checkout counters. The Magellan 35xxHSi Series is designed for retail operating conditions. It supports ambient light from 0 to 86,100 lux, 25 kV ESD air discharge protection, 5–95% non-condensing humidity and IP52 sealing. Operating temperature is 10°C to 40°C / 50°F to 104°F, while storage and transport temperature is -40°C to 70°C / -40°F to 158°F. Reading performance is built for POS use. Both models offer a read height of 10.2 cm / 4.0 in, minimum print contrast ratio of 25%, maximum resolution of 5 mil and broad reading angles with pitch of +/- 65°, roll of 0–360° and skew of +/- 75°. The 3510HSi provides audio beeper feedback with adjustable tone and volume, Good Read LED and Good Transmission indication. The 3550HSi adds an audio speaker with adjustable tone and volume and support for .wav files.
