The Heron HD3100 uses a CCD solid-state imager sensor with 2,500 pixels. It provides up to 270 reads per second, minimum print contrast of 15% and maximum resolution of 4 mils. This makes it suitable for everyday 1D retail barcode reading at the point of sale. Typical reading ranges depend on symbol length, print quality, contrast and ambient light. The scanner reads 5 mil codes from 5 to 15 cm, 10 mil codes from 2 to 35 cm, 13 mil codes from 2 to 40 cm and 20 mil codes from 2 to 60 cm. The physical design is compact and lightweight. The Heron HD3100 measures 15.2 x 15.3 x 6.8 cm and weighs 150 g. This makes it easy to handle during repeated POS scanning tasks and suitable for counters where space and appearance are important. The Heron HD3100 supports RS-232, USB and Keyboard Wedge multi-interface connectivity. Input voltage is 5 VDC +/- 5%, with typical operating current under 300 mA at 5 VDC and maximum operating current under 500 mA at 5 VDC. The scanner is designed for standard retail operating conditions. It supports ambient light from 0 to 100,000 lux, withstands repeated drops from 1.5 m / 5 ft onto concrete, and provides 16 kV ESD air discharge protection. Operating temperature is 0 to 50°C, with storage and transport temperature from -20 to 70°C. The enclosure is rated IP40. Configuration and deployment are supported by Datalogic Aladdin, available for download at no charge. OPOS and JavaPOS utilities are also available, and Remote Host Download can help lower service costs and improve operations.
