The Datalogic DS6400 is an industrial fixed-position laser barcode scanner designed for demanding Auto-ID applications in manufacturing, logistics, automated warehousing and intralogistics environments. It is built for applications where long reading range, dynamic focus, strong 1D barcode reconstruction and industrial connectivity are required. The DS6400 is not a handheld scanner and not a mobile computer. It is a fixed industrial 1D barcode reader for machine-mounted, conveyor-based, automated warehouse, forklift, picking, sorting and production-line identification points. It should not be positioned as a 2D imager for QR Code, Data Matrix, DPM or camera-based inspection applications. Typical applications include automated warehousing, medium conveyor sorting, reading on forklift trucks, picking systems and automated shop-floor identification. The DS6400 also fits broader logistics and manufacturing processes where linear barcodes must be read reliably across variable distances. A key strength of the DS6400 is FLASH dynamic focus technology. The scanner embeds a linear motor that controls the focus position through software. This allows the focus to move from minimum to maximum position in less than 10 ms and supports a reading range from 300 to 2500 mm. This wide range makes the DS6400 suitable for applications where object distance may vary significantly. The scanner uses DIGITECH technology, which provides software control over signal-processing parameters. Scanner setup can therefore be optimized by loading software recipes for different reading conditions. This helps deliver strong reading performance across different label qualities, distances and industrial environments. The DS6400 also includes ACR4 reconstruction technology. This improves reading on damaged barcodes and increases the maximum tilt angle and overall read rate. It helps minimize the gap between objects and increase system productivity by improving tracking in automated reading applications. The linear version is suitable for applications where the barcode path is predictable and a fixed scan line is sufficient. The oscillating mirror version provides broader scan coverage and is useful where barcode position varies more across the reading area. The scanner offers software-programmable scanning speed from 600 to 1200 scans per second. Resolution is down to 0.20 mm / 8 mils. Multilabel reading supports up to 10 different symbologies during the same reading phase. Readable symbologies include Code 2/5, Code 39, Code 93, Code 128, EAN / UPC, EAN128, Codabar, Pharmacode and ISBN128. These are 1D barcode symbologies commonly used in logistics, warehousing, packaging and manufacturing traceability. The DS6400 is designed for industrial durability. The case material is aluminum. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 40°C, and storage temperature is -20°C to 70°C. Humidity tolerance is 90% non-condensing. It also supports main RS232 / RS485 communication up to 115.2 Kbit/s, auxiliary RS232 up to 115.2 Kbit/s, Lonworks Master / Slave options and Ethernet connectivity on Ethernet models. Digital I/O includes three software-programmable optocoupled, event-driven outputs. Inputs include three software-programmable inputs and one encoder input, optocoupled and NPN / PNP compatible. This gives the scanner flexibility for triggered reading, encoder-based synchronization and system-level integration. The DS6400 includes an LCD display with 16 x 2 characters and three keys.
