The scanner is designed for close reading applications, with a reading distance from 50 to 300 mm. This makes it suitable for labels on products, cartons, packages, trays or components moving through controlled automation points. As a laser barcode scanner, the DS2100N is focused on 1D / linear barcode reading. Supported codes include Interleaved 2 of 5, Code 39, Code 93, Code 128, EAN / UPC, EAN128, Codabar, Pharmacode, Plessey and ISBT128. It should not be positioned as a 2D reader for QR Code or Data Matrix applications. A key advantage of the DS2100N is Datalogic’s ACR / Advanced Code Reconstruction technology. The DS2100N-12XX versions are suitable for installations where traditional serial communication, ID-NET networking or external CBX / QLM connectivity is required. Interfaces include RS232 / RS422 / RS485 main port, RS232 auxiliary port and ID-NET RS485 multidrop. The DS2100N-13XX versions add embedded Ethernet communication options, including EtherNet/IP and Ethernet TCP/IP. This makes them suitable for automation systems that need direct Ethernet-based integration without relying only on external communication modules. The DS2100N-14XX versions are designed for PROFINET environments. They include embedded PROFINET with an internal switch and two PROFINET ports. This supports line topology and can simplify integration in industrial automation networks. PROFINET line or ring topologies can be used for system redundancy, depending on network architecture. The scanner has a compact industrial form factor. Depending on model version, typical dimensions are 84 x 68 x 34 mm, 104 x 69 x 38 mm or 104 x 86 x 38 mm. Weight ranges from 281 g to 330 g, depending on configuration. The housing is aluminum, supporting industrial durability. The DS2100N is rated IP65, making it suitable for industrial environments where dust and moisture protection are required. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 45°C. Power supply is 10–30 VDC, with average power consumption of 4 W. Digital I/O depends on model version. Some versions provide two optocoupled NPN / PNP inputs and two outputs, while PROFINET-focused versions manage I/O through the fieldbus.
