Datalogic AV500 High-Performance Industrial 2D Reader
Brand - Datalogic

The Datalogic AV500 is a high-performance industrial 2D image-based reader designed for logistics, distribution, retail automation and airport baggage handling applications. It is built for high-speed transportation systems, conveyor-based identification, static reading applications, manual sorting, dimension-weigh-scan systems and unattended data capture solutions. The AV500 is not a handheld scanner and not a mobile computer. It is a fixed industrial image-based reader for automated data capture stations, logistics conveyors, airport baggage systems, manual conveyor loading, overhead scanning and order verification processes. The AV500 uses a 5 megapixel CMOS image sensor and supports image acquisition at up to 32 frames per second. This provides a strong balance between image resolution and speed for logistics and distribution environments where reliable reading must happen quickly. The reader supports fixed, adjustable, dual-zone and dynamic focus options. These focus configurations provide extended depth of field and allow the AV500 to adapt to different object heights, reading distances and application layouts. This is especially important in logistics systems where cartons, totes, parcels or baggage can vary in size and position. The AV500 supports 16 mm, 25 mm and 35 mm C-Mount lens options. The correct lens and focus configuration should be selected according to the conveyor width, object height, code size, label position and required field of view. A key advantage of the AV500 is continuous frame acquisition with no-flashing integrated illumination. White or red integrated illumination options are available. This makes the reader suitable not only for unattended conveyor systems, but also for operator-attended applications such as manual object presentation in overhead scanning mode or manual conveyor loading. Compared with flashing illumination systems, continuous no-flash lighting can be more comfortable in environments where operators work near the reading station. Colored spot indicators also support clear visual feedback during manual or semi-automatic workflows. The AV500 supports Region of Interest windowing for higher frame rates when only selected parts of the image need to be processed. This can improve performance when the code location is predictable or when the application only requires decoding from a specific area of the captured image. The AV500 uses next-generation decoding algorithms for strong decoding capability on 1D, 2D, stacked and postal symbologies. This makes it suitable for parcel labels, shipping labels, cartons, totes, baggage labels and logistics documents containing multiple code types. Supported 1D and stacked codes include Code 128 / GS1-128, Code 39, Code 32, MSI, Standard 2 of 5, Matrix 2 of 5, Interleaved 2 of 5, Codabar, Code 93, Pharmacode, EAN-8 / EAN-13, UPC-A / UPC-E, GS1 DataBar family and PDF417 / Micro PDF417. Supported 2D codes include Data Matrix ECC 200, including standard, GS1 and direct marking variants, QR Code, including standard and direct marking variants, Micro QR Code and MaxiCode. Postal codes include Aztec Code Postal, Australia Post, Royal Mail 4 State Customer, Kix Code, Japan Post, PLANET, POSTNET, POSTNET with BB, Intelligent Mail and Swedish Post. PackTrack capability is an important logistics feature. It allows the AV500 to minimize the gap between objects and increase system productivity by supporting object tracking and code assignment in conveyor-based applications. The AV500 includes FPGA hardware acceleration for real-time image processing. This helps the reader handle image elaboration efficiently in demanding logistics and industrial workflows. Captured images can be stored on-board and optionally transferred to external systems through integrated Gigabit Ethernet connectivity. Multiple image-saving formats are supported, from full-definition images to highly compressed JPEG files. This is valuable for diagnostics, traceability, dispute resolution, OCR, videocoding and extended ID workflows. The AV500 is suitable for transportation and logistics applications such as automated sorting, manual sorting, dimension-weigh-scan systems, non-conveyable auto-dimension systems, carton and tote traceability, OCR and videocoding, and extended ID and image saving. In distribution and retail, the AV500 supports order fulfilment and verification, multimedia sorting and reverse logistics. In airport environments, it is suitable for baggage handling systems and automated tag reading. System performance is supported by an Intel Pentium quad-core processor, 8 GB RAM, 32 GB eMMC flash storage and Linux operating system. The real-time clock supports time and date stamping under software control or synchronization with a time server. Connectivity includes two Ethernet TCP/IP interfaces and two serial communication interfaces. The AV500 also uses SyncNet technology with Master / Slave architecture, allowing multiple devices to be networked in one solution through a simplified interface. A dedicated high-speed image-saving port further improves integration in data capture systems where images must be transferred, stored or reviewed for performance analysis and traceability. Configuration and diagnostics are handled through e-GENIUS, a multi-language browser-based on-board HTML web server interface. Because e-GENIUS is browser-based, it can be accessed from different operating systems and hardware platforms, including PCs and tablets, without requiring dedicated configuration software. Installation is supported by the X-PRESS setup interface and integrated aiming lasers. Dual laser aiming helps align the reader during commissioning and simplifies setup in conveyor, overhead and station-level installations. The AV500 is fully compatible with WebSentinel Plus for real-time performance monitoring. This supports operational supervision, diagnostics and performance analysis in logistics, airport and distribution center environments. The reader is designed for rugged industrial use. It uses an A380 die-cast aluminum chassis and has IP65 protection. The metal integrated illumination housing is designed to withstand cleaning with harsh cleaners, making the AV500 suitable for demanding industrial environments. Active cooling helps maintain processor performance during operation. The fan life is listed as L10 at 40°C for 50,000 hours. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 50°C, and storage / transport temperature is -20°C to 70°C. Humidity tolerance is 95% non-condensing. The AV500 is specified for vibration and shock resistance. Vibration resistance is listed according to EN60068-2-6, and shock resistance according to EN60068-2-27. This supports use in logistics, conveyor and industrial systems where mechanical stress may occur during operation. The physical dimensions are 20.0 x 12.6 x 13.0 cm, and the weight is 2,900 g. This makes the AV500 smaller and lighter than the large Matrix 830 / 930 class, while still being a station-level industrial reader rather than a compact OEM imager. Power supply is 24 VDC ±20%, with power consumption listed as 2 A. The AV500 includes a 2-year factory warranty. Overall, the Datalogic AV500 is a high-performance 5 MP industrial 2D reader for logistics, airport baggage handling, distribution and semi-automatic operator-attended applications. Its strongest value lies in the 5 MP sensor, 32 fps acquisition, dynamic / adjustable / dual-zone focus options, continuous no-flash red or white illumination, C-Mount lens flexibility, PackTrack, FPGA hardware acceleration, multiple-format image saving, Gigabit Ethernet, SyncNet networking, e-GENIUS browser configuration, WebSentinel Plus compatibility, dual laser aiming, Green Spot feedback and IP65 rugged aluminum construction.
